Quite a few Danish golf fans will look forward to some much needed sleep in the coming days.
By winning the World Cup of Golf on Australian soil, Kingston Heath Golf Club outside Melbourne, power couple Søren Kjeldsen and Thorbjørn Olesen not only added a new chapter to the Danish golfing history, but also paved the way for some sleepless nights back home in Denmark.
Sunday afternoon, Aussie time, the two Danes crowned their spectacular effort by lifting the monstrous trophy, four strokes ahead of closest rivals France, China and USA.
“It certainly is the greatest moment of 2016 and a highlight in my career,” an all-smiling Søren Kjeldsen says.
It is something very special to lift this trophy together with my friend and compatriot Thorbjørn. Of course it’s always nice to win, but doing it as a part of a two men team was extraordinaire, and we were able to make every little detail work in our advantage,” he adds.
On their way to the first ever Danish victory in the World Cup of golf, the Danes produced a blistering second round of 60 – 12 under par.
